The Mango Duo 18 Guitar Amplifier is based on the now legendary 18 watt amplifier designs of the 1960's, but with several important design changes to further enhance the tone and reliability.

Firstly the classic tremolo channel has been dropped in favour of an EF86 based pentode preamp channel to add a boosted channel with a subtly different tone, so increasing flexibility.

Secondly, the ineffective normal channel tone control has been improved and a ‘Cut’ control has been added to the output stage to further improve control of overall tone.

Finally subtle changes to valve biasing and gain as well as careful component selection enhance the wonderful sound of the 18-Watt design. The result is that the The Mango Duo 18 brings out the true potential of your guitar with very little colouration and great clarity. It is the perfect amp for Rock, Blues, or in any situation where a classic British tone at a manageable volume is needed.

The simplicity of the amp is a crucial aspect to the astounding tone and dynamics of the Mango Duo 18. At lower volumes, the clean tone is full, rich and very musical. As you turn up the volume the distortion becomes more and more intense but is always musical - rich with second-order harmonics and a balanced frequency response, never fuzzy. At full volume the tube saturation and sag result in an overdriven British tone with plenty of natural tube compression. The amp cleans up very nicely as well by controlling the volume from your guitar. The simple one-knob tone control is all you need, subtly boosting either bass or treble depending on which way it is turned. This amp will project all the subtle nuances, touch sensitivity and dynamics, provided the guitar technique is good - but beware, there is nowhere to hide poor technique here.

In order to maximize versatility the Mango Duo 18 is available only in head form which will interface with any single cabinet of 4 or 8 ohms impedence, or any pair of cabinets of 8 or 16 ohms impedence. It is recommended that the Mango Duo 18 is used with the Mango 212C cabinet shown above, which uses 2x12 Celestion G12H30 Anniversary speakers. It is specifically designed to bring out the best features and tones of the amplifier. However the Mango Duo 18 would not be intimidated when used with a pair of 4x12 cabinets.

The Mango Duo 18 will sound considerably louder than you would think and is the perfect tool for live performance or recording purposes.

The normal channel and phase inverter can utilise the usual ECC83 valve for medium gain use or an NOS 5751 may be substituted for a cleaner option with later breakup. The Boost channel utilises a single EF86 Pentode stage for high gain and a different tonal signature.

Several Tolex covering colours are available to chose from as well as grille cloth patterns, fittings and knobs, to personalise the appearance of your amplifier.
